Part of a family steeped in goalkeeping, Ty Belford arrived at Swindon in the summer of 2013 after being released by Liverpool, and would spend his time at the club largely warming the bench.
After being confined to the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy and FA Cup for most of the season, Belford played five league games in his first season, and was offered out for loan in the summer, without a move materialising. He’d play just the last three league matches of the 2014/15 campaign, by which time Swindon had secured their place in the play-offs. When Belford was sent off in the final match before the play-offs, at home to Leyton Orient, it saw elder brother Cameron make his debut as his replacement - surely the first brothers to appear in goal for the same team in the same match.
While Belford looked comfortable with the ball at his feet, keeping clean sheets would prove a problem. Excluding that red card, he managed just one in 14 league starts, away at one of his former clubs Coventry, and things hit a nadir in a 6-0 mauling at Scunthorpe.
A keen speedway fan, Belford was loaned out to Southport for the 2016/17 season but when that ended early, his contract was settled in November, and he joined Oxford City.
