Signed as a youngster from Gillingham, Berkley rarely featured in the first team at the County Ground. The highlight of his Swindon career was scoring on his debut in the 3-1 away win against Oxford United in the Anglo-Italian Cup. Berkley did not feature again until the 1994/95 season when he was again mainly used in the Anglo-Italian competition. Berkley joined Shrewsbury Town on a free in the summer of 1995.
