A left-sided midfielder, Brown originally signed on a month's loan from Q.P.R,. on the loan transfer deadline day in November 2005. Having been rejected after a trial at Barnsley the previous week, he made his debut against them at the County Ground on 26th November, coming on as a substitute - but he could do nothing to prevent the Town succumbing to a 3-0 defeat.

Brown's time at Loftus Road had been ravaged by injury - a broken leg keeping him out of the game for fourteen months - and with first team opportunities limited at Rangers, his spell at Swindon was an opportunity to gain much-needed match fitness. He obviously lacked fitness during his first few matches, but this improved as he played more, and by the time his loan expired, he had featured in eight matches, giving the Town balance down the left flank. Manager Iffy Onuora then moved to bring Brown to Swindon on a permanent basis - and he signed an eighteen month deal early in January 2006 - Brown hailing Onuora as having "rescued him" from his tough period at Q.P.R..

A change in formation in March 2006 saw Brown utilised on the left of a midfield three - a position he kept until he limped out early on during a crucial relegation battle with MK Dons. He missed a win at Scunthorpe, before returning from the bench against Brentford - and netting his first Town goal - a curling quickly-taken 25 yard free kick. The following week, he netted again against former club Bristol City - after taking some stick from the City fans, he beat two men before thumping in a low drive from the edge of the area. Unfortunately, neither goal was enough to rescue the Town from relegation to League Two, and before the new season began, Brown informed new boss Dennis Wise that he didn't wish to play at the lower level. After being prevented from travelling on the club's pre-season tour to Ibiza, Brown turned down a move to Brentford to go on trial at Doncaster - but they sent him back after just one game - on his return to the County Ground, Brown had a change of heart, and withdrew his transfer request. Unaware of this development, he was jeered by some of the Town fans when he returned to action during a friendly against Crystal Palace.

In the meantime, the signing of Andy Monkhouse meant that Brown found sidelined for the new season's opening, and when Monkhouse got injured late in August, Andy Caton was given the berth on the left side of midfield. Brown did however start in the Carling Cup match against Brentford, and the following weekend came off the bench to make his first league appearance, marking it with a goal from a well struck free-kick. Nevertheless, he still struggled to break into the starting eleven, and even though Monkhouse departed for Hartlepool, the arrival of Sofiane Zaaboub, along with the utilisation of Christian Roberts on the left wing in away games, prevented Brown from any long runs in the first team.

When Zaaboub was rested in February, Brown was given another chance in the first eleven - but he did little to endear himself to the fans - being substituted in a 1-1 draw against Darlington, and then, after miscontrolling a pass, he reacted to a jeering element of the Town's support. Though he apologised during the following week, he was dropped for the next match, and started just two other games before the end of the season, generally being used as a late substitute. Once the Town had secured promotion back to League One, Brown was one of the first to be told he was being released when his contract expired.
