A goalkeeper who gained some experience with the first team on the club's pre-season trip to Devon before the 2004/05 season, Bulman made the subs bench on a couple of occasions throughout the campaign, but failed to make his first senior appearance. He was however first choice for a youth team that won both the Alliance South West Conference and the Alliance Cup - Bulman becoming a hero in the final against Burnley in April 2005, first by scoring Swindon's first penalty in the shootout, and then saving the next one - ultimately winning the trophy for the Town.

Perhaps uncertain of his capability of deputising for regular keeper Rhys Evans, manager Andy King only offered Bulman a short term deal when his youth terms expired in 2005 - but though Evans was struggling with a knee injury, any hopes of Bulman replacing him were dashed when King brought in Manchester United youngster Tom Heaton on loan in August. Bulman did however get to make his senior debut three months later, when Heaton was sent off early in an FA Cup tie at Boston, Bulman took to the field to replace him, and he again showed his penalty heroics by saving the resultant spot kick with his first touch. Any hopes of a dream debut were dashed though before the first half was out - Bulman conceding three goals in an eventual 4-1 defeat - and a timely return to fitness by Evans prevented him from making his full debut the following Saturday.

Bulman's role in the side for the rest of the season was restricted to that of an unused substitute - until, in mid-March, manager Iffy Onuora made a decision not to name a goalkeeper on the bench, to give himself more outfield options. The unfortunate FA Cup tie proved to be Bulman's only Town appearance - Onuora deciding to release him at the end of the season.
