A defender handed a one-year pro deal ahead of the 2020/21 season, Cheshire played local football in Reading before joining the Town academy. He was not involved in a matchday squad during the season, and at the end of the season he was at the centre of a brief stir on Twitter when he revealed he’d found out he’d been released when he read the retained list on Town’s official website. The club told local media that they’d tried to contact Cheshire without success. Whatever the truth of the matter, it certainly contributed to an overall feeling that the club wasn’t conducting itself especially well under the ownership of Lee Power.
