A former Argentinian under-23 international, Cobián joined Swindon from Aberdeen on a Bosman free transfer during the 2000/2001 pre-season. He made his debut for the Town in the Worthington Cup, in a 1-1 draw with Exeter on 22nd August 2000, his league debut came just four days later in a 4-1 defeat at home to Walsall.

Once Andy King had taken over, it became clear that he and Cobián did not see eye-to-eye, and with Cobián as one of the club's highest earners, it was only really a matter of time before he would leave. Things came to a head in February 2002, when the Evening Advertiser reported that Cobián was free to leave Swindon - with Cobián treating reserve matches as an exercise to maintain fitness (thus avoiding injury), and King demanding that he gave 110% in these games, it seemed that a mis-match in their footballing philosophies was the issue.

It was another ten months before Cobián actually left, however, when league newcomers Boston United took him on trial - when that didn't work out, Cobián came to a financial settlement with the Town board, and he left the County Ground early in 2003, before joining CD Linares in Spain.
