A defender signed on a five-month loan deal in August 2005, Collins started his Town career with a shaky performance on the right side of defence, in a 2-0 defeat at Barnsley on the opening day of the season. Nevertheless, he was a regular starter during Andy King's reign that season, moving into a central defensive role in early September when Sean O'Hanlon was injured, and moving back to right back when he returned.

Collins' time at the County Ground coincided with the club's worst ever run of defeats - and after manager Andy King lost his job at the end of September, new manager Iffy Onuora at first continued with Collins in the side until the start of October, when after playing at Milton Keynes Dons on the 1st, he found himself relegated to the bench the following week. After that, with the Town having six (and later eight) loan players on the books, and with Football League rules stating that only five could be named in the matchday squad, Collins found himself as the odd one out - and didn't appear again for almost two months, when a defensive crisis led to him being named in the starting eleven for a crucial relegation battle at Rotherham in early December. The Town's patched up defence held out to sneak a 1-0 win - nevertheless, it was Collins' last appearance for Swindon before returning to Hillsborough.
