A product of Bolton’s academy, 21 year-old midfielder Darcy was brought in for an undisclosed fee in the summer of 2022, signing a two-year deal after spending time trialing with the Robins. The transfer brought to an end a 10-year association with the Trotters, during which he’d spent time out on loan at Skelmersdale, Queen’s Park and, most interestingly, Sogndal in Norway.

His first season in SN1 began as an unused substitute on the opening day, before making his debut off the bench at half time against Salford at home in the second game. His full debut came against Rochdale on 20th August in Town’s 3-0 win and he had a good run of appearances over the Autumn, notching his first Town goal away at Grimsby with a finish from inside the box after Ben Gladwin had cut the ball back.

Stylistically, Darcy was a technically accomplished midfielder with a bit to work on in his contribution off the ball. His long shots were particularly eye catching, with long range efforts against Newport leading to Town’s goal as Luke Jephcott finished after Darcy’s strike from outside the box was parried by the goalkeeper.

Overall, his season was characterised by being in and out of the side, making 20 starts and 23 appearances off the bench in the league, the equal most substitute appearances in a single league season by any player in Town history along with Tyrese Shade in the same season, with both overtaking Jayden Mitchell-Lawson’s previous season tally on the final day of the season against Crawley.

A few weeks later, Darcy was back at Crawley, having joined former boss Scott Lindsey’s side for an undisclosed fee. Crawley would prove to be 2023/24’s surprise package as everyone’s pre-season tip for the drop, eventually winning promotion via the playoffs, with Darcy prominent in an attacking midfield role.
