A product of the Manchester United academy, left back Devine had plenty of pedigree in addition to a bit of League Two experience on loan at Walsall when he signed a two-year contract at Swindon in the summer of 2022.

Unfortunately, there were also some concerns about his injury record from the beginning, and these proved well founded, with Devine only making two first team appearances during his entire first season, and those appearances being six months apart. His first was 83 minutes in the Papa John’s Trophy against Plymouth, and his second a genuinely promising 54 minute performance against league leaders Leyton Orient in March before pulling up with a badly injured hamstring that would end his season.

Devine and Town would have been hoping for better luck with injuries going into his second season, but if anything things were worse: Devine badly tore his hamstring in a preseason friendly against Swansea which would also see Tom Clayton sustain a serious injury, and whilst he reported came close to a return to the first team in February, setbacks and caution meant that he didn't make a first team squad at all during the 23/24 season, which unsurprisingly culminated in his release.
