Following Dan Kemp at Swindon was never likely to be an easy task, and Devoy’s signing weighed heavily on the fans who saw statements from STFC representatives suggesting Milton Keynes were “happy with the way we [STFC] are developing their players” as a depressing sign of the club’s lack of ambition - bearing in mind MK were in the same division at the time.
Joining on loan for the second half of the season after Kemp’s recall, Devoy is naturally a slightly deeper lying midfielder to Kemp and played in both attacking and defensive focused midfield roles during his spell in SN1. As Town’s season petered out to their worst league finish since the 1950s, Devoy was a consistent presence and probably one their better performers, although he had nothing like the impact of Kemp and divided opinion in the stands. At times, he displayed a coolness of finish that is fairly unusual for midfielders, including a second half brace against Wimbledon in April.
After his release by MK that summer, Swindon were interested in making Devoy a permanent signing, but he chose to return to Ireland with Bohemiams.
