Edds was originally signed on a monthly deal, after a short trial spell before the 2002/2003 season. Following an impressive start, and the departure of Sol Davis, manager Andy King was in a position to offer an improved contract to Edds, and he signed a one-year deal, with the option of a second year extension.
Though King utilised him as a right back, Edds' preferred a central midfield position, and it was here that he made his debut for the Australian under-23 side, in September 2002.
Despite this, Edds' stay at Swindon was short-lived - it soon became apparent that King did not see eye-to-eye with him, citing an attitude problem as his reasons. When his contract expired at the end of the season, King chose not to renew it.
