After coming up through the youth ranks, Edwards made his debut for the club in 1-0 LDV Vans Trophy defeat at Colchester on 16th October 2001. His performance prompted Roy Evans to give him his league debut just five days later, coming on as a substitute in a 3-0 home reverse against Cardiff.

For the next two seasons, Edwards was no more than a backup player, before being released when his contract expired at the end of the 2002/2003 season.
