A former Welsh international, Evans signed on a twelve month deal in July 2006, after featuring in a pre-season friendly against Reading. Lacking in fitness, he started the season as a substitute, making his debut in the second half of a 1-0 win over Hartlepool on the opening day of the season, before making his full debut the following Saturday, in a 1-0 win over Rochdale - a match in which Evans took one of the two penalties awarded to the Town, both of which were missed. Evans did however open his account seven days later, scoring from a free-kick early in a 2-1 victory at Darlington.

The impressive opening to his campaign generally saw Evans as the first choice central midfielder - paired with Paul Ince, Michael Pook and Curtis Weston in the centre of the park. The Darlington goal prompted a run of four goals in six games - and he remained in the heart of the Town's midfield until the end of September, when an illness saw him dropped to the bench, before a hamstring injury sidelined him for the rest of October.

Evans' return was unfortunately short-lived - after returning in early November against Hereford, he took his place in the Town's midfield for new boss Paul Sturrock's first match in charge at Torquay, and though the Town struggled to a 1-0 victory, Evans retired with a knee ligament strain early in the game, that kept him out of action for over a month. After surprisingly being named on the bench for a game at Macclesfield just before Christmas, he entered the fray early on after an injury to Sofiane Zaaboub, only to injure his ankle in a collision with team-mate Curtis Weston, and was forced off himself early in the second half. After a scan confirmed that Evans had dislodged some bony growth just above the ankle, he remained sidelined into the New Year. Though it was first expected that he would be back in action by February, twice Evans attempted to return only to break down in training, and two ankle operations finally ended his season. As his contract expired, Evans was invited back for pre-season training by Sturrock, but without the promise of a contract - and after Evans appeared in the local press complaining that he had not heard from anyone at the club over the close season to check on his rehabilitation, he did not return to the County Ground.
