Francis was one of a number of Town youth players involved around the first team squad in the early part of the 2021/22 season as head coach Ben Garner sought to manage a small squad. A full back, Francis achieved the full bingo card for Town youth players that season - a Papa John’s Trophy start against Colchester in November, followed by loan spells with Highworth Town and Chippenham. Shortly before his first team debut, he had scored a hat-trick in the FA Youth Cup win over Winchester City - despite this, he was not offered a professional contract at the end of his scholarship.
