Signed as part of a rarely seen straight swap deal in the summer of 2024, Godwin-Malife joined Town from Forest Green, with Marcel Lavinier heading in the opposite direction. Capable of playing at right back or centre back, “UGM” hit the headlines in a surprising manner when video footage of his near note-perfect rendition of John Legends’ “All Of Me” in his induction went viral, racking up millions of views and positive feedback from the American singer himself.

On the pitch, UGM made himself a regular as the right sided, marauding centre-back and was - perhaps oddly for the position - one of Town’s biggest attacking threats through the first part of the season in which Swindon got off to a flying start. Defensively, he was often out of position upfield but displayed reasonable defensive technique when called upon. As summer turned to Autumn, Town’s form nose dived as their ultra-attacking formation started to be worked out by other clubs, but whilst not perfect, Godwin-Malife was still one of Town’s better performers.

In January, Town’s regular right wing back Remeao Hutton was sold to Gillingham and Conor McCarthy was brought in to anchor Town’s defence, meaning Godwin-Malife shifted across to right back. Considering how forward-thinking he had been at centre-back, UGM was almost restrained as a full back and showed a bit more of a defensive mindset than might have been expected. Town’s form failed to improve after January and they limped towards a miserable 19th placed finish, but UGM clearly managed to impress all the same as he won a number of the club’s player of the year awards - those that didn’t go to Dan Kemp, despite only playing half the season - and earned himself a move to League One Burton for an undisclosed fee early the following summer.
