Hulbert was one of the club's most promising youngsters, and was breaking into the first team, when suddenly he wasn't being picked any more.

Details soon became apparent that when Swindon signed him from Everton, it was under the agreement that for every 30 league games Hulbert played, Swindon would pay £25,000. With the club in administration, and with Hulbert on 29 first team appearances, he was sold to Bristol City for a mere £25,000.
