A centre-forward who caught the eye of Swindon scouts during a prolific spell with Southern League side Redditch United - his move to Town was a controversial one with Redditch chairman Chris Swan accusing Swindon of breaking the "seven day notice of approach" rule to secure his signature and made an official complaint to the Football Association. Despite this, in January 2015, Hylton signed a two-and-a-half year contract, and despite the interest of other clubs including Birmingham City.

Hylton’s initial job was to complement Town’s current strikeforce of Andy Williams, Michael Smith and Jonathan Obika as the club pushed for an automatic promotion place. Hylton made a series of cameo appearances before scoring his first professional goal, the winner, in the 1-0 victory over Peterborough United.

Swindon ended the campaign in the Play-Offs and Hylton started both legs of the semi-final against Sheffield United - in the second leg, he was denied a clear chance on goal after being flattened by Blades goalkeeper Mark Howard. Michael Smith converted the penalty to make it 4-2 on the night but Hylton was substituted before the bizarre finale which resulted in the game finished 5-5 (6-5 on aggregate).

Manager Mark Cooper opted for a strike partnership of Smith and Obika for the Play-Off Final against Preston North End - Hylton failed to make a Wembley appearance, and the Town were decimated 4-0.

Town experienced an exodus of players in the summer of 2015 and it looked like Town would go for a partnership of Hylton and Obika, who had built a good rapport, for the 2015/16 season and this appeared to be the case as both started the opening game of the season against Bradford City. However, Hylton suffered an injury after just 11 minutes and was replaced by Fabien Robert.

Hylton was ruled out for almost two months but, in truth, never really fully recovered as he made only 17 more appearances during 2015-16 without scoring. He was also sent out on loan to Guiseley but returned early having suffered another injury.

He remained a bit-part player throughout his final season with Swindon under Luke Williams, getting a run in the first team in December but failing to make an impression. He was released in the summer of 2017 with Town relegated to League Two and later found form in the National League with Solihull Moors before returning to the pro game with Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership.
