Signed on loan from Bristol City shortly before the close of the transfer window in January 2023, tall central midfielder Dylan Kadji had a forgettable spell in Town colours. Blessed with plenty of athletic ability, but seemingly not quite the finished article as a footballer, Kadji failed to win a regular first team spot and was eventually reduced to a series of cameo substitute appearances in the last ten minutes of games, seemingly more aimed at fulfilling contractual obligations than affecting the flow of a game.
Perhaps his most interesting Town game was in Town’s 3-0 home win against Harrogate, when he came on at half time for the injured Ciaran Brennan and played a full game at centre-back alongside Tom Clayton, with Town having no other options in the heart of defence. He acquitted himself fairly well physically, but struggled positionally, and the experiment was not repeated, with Joe Tomlinson preferred at centre back against Leyton Orient a week later.
