A central midfielder who joined on-loan from Portsmouth after manager Richie Wellens had previously attempted to sign him on a permanent basis. Wellens proclaimed the move to be a ‘no brainer’ and described May as "a very good footballer - really clever. He’s got a terrific range of passing - short or long - he’s very accurate. He gives us a different dimension."

He made his debut in the 3-2 loss to Chelsea U23 in the Football League Trophy, but did not impress fans with a languid first 45 minutes. May improved in the second half which was helped after hitting an impressive half-volley past Jamie Cumming. This would prove to be May’s only goal for Swindon.

May couldn't hold down a regular place in the side for the remainder of his Town career with series of cameos - and when he did get a decent amount of game time, they resulted in losses against Colchester United in the League Cup, Northampton Town and Newport County in the league, and Football League Trophy losses against Plymouth Argyle and Bristol Rovers.

His final appearance came as an 87th minute sub against Bradford City at the County Ground in early January 2020. The visitors equalised late-on through a Shay McCartan shortly afterwards and May felt the wrath of Town supporters on social media afterwards. His loan cut short, May returned to Portsmouth later that month, before joining National League side Boreham Wood on loan for the rest of the season.
