One of the most exciting academy breakthroughs in recent years, McGregor is a former winger who was moved to a full/wing back in the Town youth team with great success, and in 2023/4, a season where a large number of academy players were involved in the first team after their success in the FA Youth Cup, McGregor was the clear standout, with a couple of impressive substitute appearances and performing strongly in training with the first team leading to starts in all of Town’s final three games of the season at right wing back.

McGregor joined Swindon at under-12 level and signed an academy scholarship at 16. Always a dangerous runner forward, he’s become increasingly solid defensively without sacrificing his attacking instincts: there can’t be many full backs with two hat tricks in a season at any level, as McGregor notched against Portsmouth and Exeter U18s. His challenge will be to step up to men’s football and impose himself on games in the same way against professionals: it’s clear Swindon certainly have high hopes for him.
