After signing as an schoolboy from Norwich, then coming through the Swindon youth ranks, Meechan featured on the bench a couple of times, but only got onto the pitch once, in a 3-1 defeat at Wolves on the 18th October 1997. He was released in a clear out at the end of that season, that also saw Ian Culverhouse, Frédéric Darras, Peter Holcroft, Jason Drysdale, Dean Hooper and Alan McDonald leave the County Ground.
