A Colombian forward signed on an initial one month loan deal from West Ham, just days after a previous loan spell at Notts County was seemingly ended because the Hammers wanted him back for their squad, Montano admitted that the chance to work with Town boss Paolo di Canio was instrumental in his decision to move to Swindon. Montano scored on his debut in a 2-0 away win at Accrington Stanley in October 2011, but made just three more appearances over the next two weeks - after being dropped to the bench for the visit of Bradford at the end of the month, di Canio publicly stated that he would not consider Montano for a starting slot for the trip to Port Vale, the Town boss unhappy with the Colombian's application in training in the week prior to the game. When di Canio failed to see a positive response from Montano over the following days, his loan deal was cut short.
