A striker signed on an initial two month loan deal on the loan transfer deadline day in November 2011 - with Ipswich boss Paul Jewell keen for Murray to gain some first team experience, it was agreed that the Tractor Boys would pay for his wages during his loan spell. Upon signing him, Town boss Paolo di Canio described Murray's main strength as his pace, and attacking the space when on the counter attack - Murray himself stated that he was aiming to emulate Jordan Rhodes and Connor Wickham, other products of the Ipswich youth system.
Murray made his debut as a substitute in a 2-0 home win over Aldershot at the end of the month, and spent the whole of his first month at the club on the bench, despite scoring twice during this period - the first a winning goal at Southend in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy, the second the last strike of a 3-0 win over Morecambe. After making his full debut in a 2-1 win over Northampton on New Year's Eve, Swindon confirmed that they were looking to extend the loan deal - and when Murray confirmed that he was "loving every minute" at the County Ground, di Canio made a bid to sign the Irishman on a permanent deal - an offer rejected by Ipswich. Returning to Portman Road, Murray agreed a new one-year contract, before being allowed to return to Swindon on another temporary deal until the end of the season.
Much like his first spell, Murray was in and out of the side during his second loan period - and often his inclusion seemed to rile a certain section of the Town support, especially if the diminutive striker was preferred to fans' favourite Alan Connell. Murray netted just twice more before the season was out - crucial opening goals in 2-0 victories against Burton and Barnet - as Swindon stormed to the League Two title.
