A Welsh international, Nurse was signed in August 1965 for £15,000 from Middlesbrough, after he had become homesick in the North East.
A tall, commanding defender, Nurse was a consistent performer in the heart of the Town's defence. The club captain, he made his debut for the Town in a 1-0 defeat at Hull in September. His first goal came almost five months later, in a 3-0 away victory at local rivals Oxford.
He left the club at the end of the 1967/1968 season to return to his hometown of Swansea - Stan Harland taking over the captaincy for the most successful Town season ever.
