One of Colin Todd's signings for Swindon, O'Halloran joined from St. Johnstone on a Bosman free transfer during the 2000/2001 pre-season.

A determined midfielder with an eye for goal - O'Halloran featured in the Match of the Day Goal of the Month award for his spectacular effort against Gateshead in the FA Cup that season, and was almost ever-present - by the end of the season, he had seven goals to his name, many coming from the penalty spot.

O'Halloran suffered a horrific injury in September 2001 - breaking his leg in two places after an innocuous challenge during a league game at Bournemouth. Originally, it was thought the injury would keep him out of action for three months - however, after a number of setbacks, he didn't wear a Town jersey again for eighteen months - ironically, his first full ninety minutes coming in a reserve team win over Bournemouth in March 2003.

When his contract expired at the end of the season, O'Halloran was offered the chance to continue training with the Town, in order to prove his fitness and earn a new deal. During this time, he appeared in many reserve games for the Town, and also turned out for Cirencester in the Doc Martens League. When a contract offer from Swindon was not forthcoming, and a move to Darlington fell through, O'Halloran left the club to continue his rehabilitation at Chippenham.
