Having been linked with Swindon on numerous occasions in the past, Proctor signed for the Town on a month's loan from Rotherham in February 2005. His signing was was the first funded by the Red Army Fund, an initiative by the Supporter's Trust allowing fans to donate money specifically to strengthen the squad.

Proctor repaid some of the money immediately, scoring the winner on his debut - a 1-0 win over Port Vale on 25th February, and played in three more games for the Town - another goal coming in a 3-1 defeat at Luton - before his return to Millmoor in March.
