A striker signed on a six month loan deal from Southen on the transfer deadline day in September 2009, with a view to a permanent deal - Revell's signing sparked a row when he claimed to have been told to leave to reduce the Shrimpers' wage bill, Southend's chief executive responded by criticising Revell for not living up to expectations at Roots Hall. Ironically, his signing came just three days after he had lined up against the Town, who beat Southend in a league match at the County Ground,
Though his workrate was always high, Revell didn't turn out to be the answer to the Town's goalscoring problems - after making his debut against Colchester in September, he opened his Town account in his fifth match, when he scored two goals in a 3-2 win at Brentford in October - the second goal a superb curling effort from the edge of the area. Unfortunately, he wasn't able to repeat the feat again, and they proved to be his only goals in Town colours - and by the end of the month, he returned to the bench after fellow striker Billy Paynter had rediscovered his goalscoring form in the reserves. Revell's days were numbered when Charlie Austin broke into the first team after his transfer from Poole Town - after Austin scored on his debut against Carlisle, he was replaced by Revell with twenty minutes to go - Revell himself having a golden opportunity to seal the points, but his shot ballooned wildly over. Days later, Revell made one more substitute appearance against Huddersfield, but he spent the whole of December as an unused substitute, and despite manager Danny Wilson later revealing that he wanted to sign Revell for the rest of the season, an extended loan deal was not acceptable to Southend, and he returned to Roots Hall. Obviously unwelcome there after the previous comments by his chairman, Revell then signed for Wycombe on another loan deal, and he would come back to haunt Swindon - though keeper David Lucas saved his penalty at Adams Park towards the end of the season, the rebound was crossed back to him and his headed effort was adjudged to have crossed the line, to put the Chairboys 2-1 up in a game that Swindon really needed maximum points from to continue their quest for automatic promotion - the game eventually finishing 2-2.
