A left back signed on an initial month's loan from Huddersfield in September 2011, Ridehalgh made his debut on the last day of the month - coming on as a second half substitute in a 2-0 defeat at Macclesfield, Town boss Paolo di Canio utilising him in an unusual position on the left wing. After again being named on the bench the following weekend, he made his full debut in a 2-0 win at Accrington Stanley - and Ridehalgh's introduction to the starting eleven coincided with a run of five consecutive clean sheets, a period in which his loan was extended until the end of December.
Ridehalgh remained as the first choice left back right throughout the loan spell, as Swindon moved into the play-off places - missing only an FA Cup tie in November, as the Town were drawn against his parent club Huddersfield (though he was cleared to play in the second round after his loan side surprised the Terriers, beating them 4-1), and matches against Southend and Bristol Rovers with an ankle injury.
As his loan spell drew to a close, at first it was reported that Ridehalgh would extend his deal further until the end of the season - but after appearing in a 1-0 defeat at Torquay on Boxing Day, he posted a message on social networking site Twitter that suggested he would be leaving after all - injury to Huddersfield's regular left back Callum Woods prompting his return. He was soon loaned out again, this time to Chesterfield - who Swindon would meet in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final at Wembley - Ridehalgh unable to play though due to appearing for the Town in the earlier stages of the competition.
