Forward Robinson nearly became a Town player ten years before his eventual debut, with a move from Watford worth around £275,000 falling through in 2009 as the player opted to move to Huddersfield instead, angering the then Town chairman Andrew Fitton who publicly condemned the ‘greed’ of the player’s agent.

Ten years and nine loan and permanent clubs later, the now thirty year-old Robinson became a deadline day loan capture for Town boss Richie Wellens, joining from fellow league Two club Southend United. Robinson hit the ground running at SN1, starting in wins over MK Dons and Forest Green Rovers, and notching his first goal in the latter game. He would score seven in total across the run in, including two on the final day against Notts County to relegate the Magpies from the Football League for the first time in their history.

Wellens went on record, stating that he wanted Robinson to sign permanently for the 2019/20 season, but the player instead chose to join Colchester United. Robinson returned to haunt Swindon, scoring twice at the County Ground in September as the U’s ran out 3-0 winners and then twice more in the return fixture in January as Colchester took six points from the eventual League Two champions.
