Signed on a two-year deal in the summer of 2022 after his release from Leicester City, wide player Shade looked a typical ‘project’ player taken on by lower league clubs: blessed with plenty of athletic talent, a good size and with a bit of pace too, Shade has all the ingredients to be a good lower league winger or wide forward, but from a technical and tactical perspective would be kindly described as a rough diamond.
Shade made his debut at left wing-back in Town’s heavy defeat to Harrogate on the opening day, but it took only three games for Scott Lindsey to decide that he would be better used further forward, and almost all of his appearances for the rest of the season would be as part of the front three, usually in one of the wide positions but occasionally through the middle in Football League Trophy games. He was in and out of the side throughout the season, making 16 starts, but only four after New Year’s Day and 23 substitute appearances. His substitute appearance tally was the equal most in a single league season by any player in Town history along with Ronan Darcy in the same season, with both overtaking Jayden Mitchell-Lawson’s previous season tally on the final day of the season against Crawley.
Shade’s second season in Town was similar to his first: in and out of the side and never quite nailing down a single position whilst filling in on both sides of the pitch, before joining Solihull Moors on loan in February for the remainder of the season. At the end of the season, Shade was released and joined Eastleigh shortly thereafter.
