A small, pacy striker signed on a free transfer after being released by Leicester at the end of the 2002/2003 season, Stevenson made his debut as a substitute on the opening day of the season, in a 3-2 defeat versus Sheffield Wednesday.
Despite being praised by Leicester fans upon his arrival at the County Ground, Stevenson failed to make his mark - he started just one league game, an unexpected 2-1 reverse at home to Stockport, and with top scorer Sam Parkin out through injury, manager Andy King decided to bring in Deon Burton on loan from Portsmouth instead of playing Stevenson. After Burton's return, King delved into the transfer market again, signing Rory Fallon from Barnsley - a lanky frontman in complete contrast to Stevenson. To make matters worse, Stevenson was arrested for abusive and disorderly behaviour after a drunken nightclub fracas in February 2004 - and was fined £100 after pleading guilty to the charges, which also brought a reprimand from the club.
After that point, though he made the bench on a few occasions, he didn't appear for the Town again, and he left the club at the end of the season when his contract expired, having made a total of just eight appearances, four as a substitute.
