Chiseldon born, but having never been on the books of the club as a young player, left full back Tomlinson was Swindon’s final signing of the January 2022 transfer window, joining on loan from Peterborough United.

He made an exceptional start to life at SN1, culminating in being named EFL Young Player of the Month for February on the back of three assists and a goal from six games played during the month. A groin injury suffered in the warm up against Bradford kept him out of action for the month of March, and he managed only four further appearances before a knee injury ended his season and his spell in red and white.

His second spell in Town colours was almost a mirror of the first: signed on loan on Deadline Day in January 2023, Tomlinson arrived injured and didn’t make the bench until Harrogate’s visit to the County Ground on 25th February. Introduced to replace Jacob Wakeling in the 74th minute with Town 2-0 up, Tomlinson scored within four minutes, following up his own deflected shot to head past the keeper at the near post. One game later, he was back on the treatment table, missing most of March before returning against Stockport. At home to Mansfield in April, he was fielded in a rather unusual right centre back role, with Jacob Wakeling at left wing back and Frazer Blake-Tracy at left centre back. The experiment was a bit of a disaster, with Town conceding four goals in defeat, and Tomlinson was restored to the left full back birth for his next game. Another injury kept him out until the final day of the season, when he was introduced as a second half substitute for what would prove his final Town appearance: Town suggested that they’d like to have kept Tomlinson, but he was under contract at Peterborough and his injury record may have proved off-putting. Tomlinson would eventually join Milton Keynes that summer, and played 36 times across the season, including twice in victories against Town.
