Before joining Swindon, Weston became the youngest player ever to appear in an FA Cup Final, when he appeared as a late substitute in the 2004 final for Millwall against Manchester United aged 17 years and 119 days - beating a 125 year old record set by James Princep of Old Etonians. Weston replaced Millwall player-manager Dennis Wise that day - it was Wise who brought Weston to Swindon two years later.

Weston made his debut for the Town in a 1-0 win at Hartlepool on the opening day of the season, and despite the competition for places in the midfield, he featured in all but two of the Town's matches up to Christmas - the second of which was missed through suspension, after picking up his fifth booking of the campaign against Lincoln. The next match, a 3-1 victory over Carlisle in the FA Cup, was new manager Paul Sturrock's first in charge - and after Sturrock called on his midfielders to shoot more often to get amongst the goals, Weston's first came in mid-December, when he put the Town 2-1 up against Bristol Rovers, after Lukas Jutkiewicz had equalised two minutes previously. Weston was to miss the busy Christmas period though, after colliding with team-mate Paul Evans in a game at Macclesfield, both players ended up on the sidelines, an ankle injury keeping Weston out until mid-January.

Even when he did return though, Weston was to start just two more games for the Town. It soon became apparent that he had a clash of footballing philosophies with Sturrock - though Weston liked to run with the ball, Sturrock saw the central midfield zone as an area to win the ball and pass it. When the season ended, it was therefore perhaps unsurprising that Sturrock told Weston he was free to find another club - but the number of matches he had played earlier in the season meant that a second year was automatically triggered. Wanting first team football, Weston actively began the search for a new club, but he soon complained that the lack of any evidence that he was available for transfer was hampering his efforts, and he pleaded with Sturrock to release him. His wish was granted shortly afterwards, when agreement was made to terminate his contract in mid-June.
