Williams signed on loan from Liverpool for the 2015/16 season alongside teammate Kevin Stewart. His loan spell was reasonably forgettable, not helped by being one of four Jordans in the first team squad that season (alongside Stewart, Young and Turnbull).
He and Stewart started the season alongside Yaser Kasim in midfield, essentially replacing Massimo Luongo and Ben Gladwin, who had been sold to QPR over the close season. He started fairly well, assisting one of Nathan Byrne’s goals on the opening day and made ten appearances before the end of September, slotting in central defence on occasions. He suffered a severe knee injury which kept him out for several months, and his loan was cut short in February to allow him to focus on recovery.
After leaving the County Ground, Williams went by the moniker of “MJ” and went on to perform for a number of clubs in the Lancashire area, including for Rochdale, Blackpool and Bolton.
