Named on the bench to face a strong Chelsea side featuring Fernando Torres and Kevin De Bruyne in the League Cup as a fifteen-year-old schoolboy, it seemed that great things were expected of Stratton’s Ryan Wood. Unfortunately, that was probably the pinnacle of his time at Town, as the defender didn’t get onto the pitch that night or any other for the first team, and only made the bench twice more over two seasons. When he turned 18, he was not offered professional terms and went on to play local non-league football for Swindon Supermarine and Highworth.
